Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Program
This is a grant program that provides assistance to NFIP-participating communities for flood mitigation planning and project activities. The DCA administers this Federal Emergency Management Agency pass-through cost share grant for developing flood mitigation plans, and flood mitigation projects.
The historic Don Sheldon Hangar Building in Talkeetna was elevated above flood levels using a Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant. The building has been renovated as a community theater. (click on picture to see larger version.)
Structures that have been flooded over and over again, called Repetitive Flood Loss Properties, are the current target for this funding to buyout, elevate, or relocate flood-prone structures. |
