Horseshoe Crab Model. ($1) This life-sized
paper model, to cut out and assemble with tape, is a great
activity for 4th
graders and up. It’s also a perfect companion to
the horseshoe crab MAS Bulletin. Includes background on the
horseshoe crab and a crossword puzzle to test readers’ knowledge.
Copies are free to Delaware schoolteachers for classroom
use. Requests should be submitted

Dogfish Shark Model($1)
This full-color, three-dimensional model, which can be assembled with tape in approximately 15 minutes, is a great way to learn more about the most common shark species on the U.S. East Coast. Includes many interesting and less well-known facts about the smooth dogfish and other shark species. Copies are free to Delaware schoolteachers for classroom use. Requests should be submitted on school letterhead. 2006.

Are you ready to explore the ocean? Since 2000, the
University of Delaware has hosted award-
winning special educational programs — “virtual
field trips” — to give educators, students,
and
the general public firsthand knowledge of how marine
research is conducted. An interactive
Web site links classrooms with scientists studying fascinating
habitats such as hydrothermal vents over a mile deep
on the ocean floor.

Deep-Sea Resource Guide. (Free) This
eight-page, full-color guide describes the geology of
the ocean floor and hydrothermal
vents, the biology of deep-sea life, and the technology
that is used to explore the deep sea. The guide also
highlights a “hot” discovery made by a University
of Delaware marine scientist at a hydrothermal vent site
in the Pacific Ocean. Includes detailed, full-color photos
and a number of student activities for those who want
to dive deeper into this extreme environment. 2002.

28-page document
showcases Sea Grant's record of success in marine and aquatic science education
and highlights eight areas where literacy efforts can be improved with enhanced

Salty Memoirs: Adventures in Marine Science. ($50) A
two-book set highlighting the fascinating history of
the University of Delaware’s College of Marine
Studies. Written by two of the college’s first
scientists — Dr. Franklin C. Daiber, CMS professor
emeritus, and his wife, Mrs. Joanne Currier Daiber. Includes
black-and-white photographs. A limited number of deluxe
editions, designed by Steven Daiber, also are available
for $350. The covers of this edition are made from Spartina,
a salt-marsh grass. Hand-colored woodcut prints illustrate

Southern Delaware Tourism Facts. (Free)
