Benefits of Membership

IECA connects you with membership in your local chapter, conferences and field days, networking, education, publications, members-only web site, cost savings, and more …

But IECA membership is so much more than these tangible benefits. When you join IECA, you help deliver erosion control education around the world.

Water pouring into a glass

Erosion control is essential for preserving the quality of our water.

Erosion and its side effect, sediment, can have serious consequences for water quality, the environment and property owners. Uncontrolled erosion is costly—to communities trying to cope with water quality issues; to property owners who see their land wash away or end up covered in mud; and to developers who are faced with fines and stop work orders.

As a member of IECA, you will have access to the resources you need to solve the problems caused by erosion and sediment.

Local Chapters

IECA membership includes membership in your local chapter—your connection to the problems, solutions, people and trends specific to your climate and soil conditions. Chapters enable you to meet and learn from peers in your region in a fun, social and comfortable atmosphere. You can gain valuable contacts by being involved in your Chapter.

The Chapter has allowed me to network with other individuals in my field who live in my area. The knowledge base is widespread, from those new to the industry to those who are experts in the industry. The information provided in the newsletter, annual Chapter meetings and field trips have provided me with an opportunity to increase my knowledge of areas with which I was unfamiliar.—Mike Chase, CPESC, Western Chapter

Chapters participate in educating children and the community about the importance of controlling erosion.

I volunteer for my Chapter because I feel every IECA member has a duty to help grow awareness of the impact of soil erosion and sediment control on the environment in which we live.—Donn Ellis, Great Lakes Chapter

Clean water is rare in many parts of the world

As sediment enters waterways, it transports nutrients, pesticides, bacteria and toxic substances; harms aquatic wildlife; and reduces beneficial uses of the water.

Sedimentation can also increase flood hazards and water treatment costs, and may destroy water supplies for human, animal and other wildlife consumption, as well as feeding and nesting habitats.

The cumulative toll on the environment can be devastating.
