Silver Recovery Program from Scrap X-ray Film & Passive filters
The Silver Recovery Program at the SDC Operations Division consists of the processing of scrap x-ray film for its silver content and the processing of silver laden passive filters from X-ray developing solution systems operated at VA medical centers. The scrap x-ray film process begins with individual VA medical centers sending a 134a to VATLC to obtain transportation arrangements for outdated X-ray film (both exposed and unexposed). The 134a must include station number, number of pallets, weight and number of pieces of each pallet. The passive filter recovery filter process begins with the station placing a no cost order through the LOGFP (FPOrders) system for a new filter to replace an expended one. There are only two types of filters: 1). stock number F08001 for the Act -1; single cell and 2). stock number F08002 for the Tandem 200 dual cell type. Upon receipt of an order for either type of filter, a flag will be placed against your station number and this will remain there until the old filter is received by the SDC Operations Division. With both commodities, film or filters, collection and forwarding for silver processing will take place from the SDC.
