The City of Shakopee is located in the southwest corner of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, 23 miles from Minneapolis, on the Minnesota River. Residents of Shakopee enjoy both the atmosphere of a small town and the resources of a thriving metropolitan area. park_benchIncorporated in 1857 as a booming river town, today Shakopee is the county seat of Scott County, one of the fastest growing counties in the United States.  

The city has its own downtown central business district, regional medical center and business park and is home to regional entertainment attractions such as Historic Murphy’s Landing, Valleyfair Amusement Park, and Canterbury Park Racetrack.

Reward Offered for Conviction of School Vandals (10-24-08)
A $250 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for vandalism (broken windows) at Sun Path Elementary School. Call the Police Department at 952-233-9400 with information.

Slow Down in School Zones and Watch for Pedestrian Traffic (10-24-08)
Drivers are required by state law to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. The Police Department is increasing its enforcement efforts of pedestrian safety laws, especially in school zones.

Burglary Prevention Tip – Lock Your Doors (10-24-08)
Burglary prevention can be as simple as locking the door to your building/home and checking to make sure the lock is in good working order and has latched correctly. Many of the 100 plus local burglary calls reported this year has resulted because a door was left open or unlocked.
