Recycling

Recycling is a word that was coined in the 1970s, and has come to have many meanings, some very erroneous. In the true sense, recycling is the process of taking a discarded product and processing it into raw feedstock used to make a new product.

Until recently when the price of crude oil skyrocketed, agricultural plastics were not typically recycled. Fortunately that is changing. Limitations to recycling are: 1) contamination due to dirt, dissimilar resin types or dissimilar colors, 2) ability to collect from diverse and remote sites, and 3) virgin resin prices on the open market which then affect recycled feedstock prices.
