With the leadership of the West Warwick Town Council, the Town of West Warwick continues to look for opportunities to move forward, emphasizing economic development and at the same time making the Town a better and more affordable place in which to live.

The Town is currently experiencing a very high success rate in the rehabilitation of its old textile mills into residential housing.  A portion of the Royal Mill is now open for occupancy and the rest of the complex will open in the near future.  The Centerville Mill is also in the process of having its redevelopment plans approved and construction should start soon thereafter.  Finally, Struever Brothers, Eccles and Rouse signed papers to redevelop the Crompton Mill that was recently closed due to a lack of business. However, the current weak housing market will have some impact on timing. In total, these developments could add up to 750 units to West Warwick’s housing stock. A forty- plus unit development has also started in Arctic for senior affordable units.

While the mills and other residential developments are moving forward at a somewhat reduced pace, significant efforts are also being made to expand more commercial and other business related development in the town with a special emphasis on Arctic.  However, the lack of developable land owned by the Town and available for redevelopment purposes constraints the Arctic improvements. In addition, there are hopes that a major hotel and indoor water park will be built in the West Warwick Business Park.

With all these projects moving ahead somewhat concurrently, the Council and the Town staff are busy insuring that all these developments are in the best interest of West Warwick’s taxpayers and citizens alike.
