SEATTLE — Solid waste contractors picked up regularly scheduled Monday garbage and recycling today, and collections will be continued on a normal schedule this week for Tuesday and Wednesday customers. Due to the New Year’s holiday, Thursday (Jan. 1) customers will be collected on Friday, and Friday customers will be collected on Saturday.

All garbage and most recycling pickup is expected to be completed throughout Seattle by this Saturday, Jan. 3.

Yard waste service — including Christmas tree pickup — will be resumed next week for residential customers. Check your schedule for your next yard waste pickup date. Extra yard waste will be collected at no additional charge, through Friday, Jan. 16.

“SPU is working this week to get garbage collections back on track after the unprecedented winter storm,” said Hans Van Dusen, the city’s solid waste contracts manager. “If customers’ garbage has not been picked up on their appointed day this week, we want them to call us so that we can fix the problem.”

If for some reason your garbage has not been collected by 6 p.m. on your scheduled day, please call SPU’s Call Center, at 206-684-3000.

There will be no additional charge for extra garbage collected through this Saturday, Jan 3. (Recycling is always collected for free.) When setting out extra waste, customers are encouraged to place perishable food items in their collection containers and set bagged non-perishable items next to the containers.

Customers who have had their collections missed can also take their waste to Seattle’s Recycling and Disposal stations, where it will be accepted at no charge through Saturday, Jan. 3. Yard waste can be disposed of at the transfer stations through Friday, Jan. 16. The stations will be closed on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1.

SPU’s Call Center — 206-684-3000 — will be open extended hours this week, as well as on New Year’s Day and this weekend, to take calls from customers who have been missed on their normal pickup day this week. The Center is normally closed on holidays and weekends, but messages can be left during non-working hours.

The Call Center schedule this week is:

Tuesday, Dec. 30 — 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
