2009 Trash & Recycling News:

Beginning in January 2009, the Village’s trash and recycling provider, Veolia Services, will be providing one 96-gallon roll out trash and one 96-gallon roll out recycling cart to all residential households.  Trash and recycling will continue to be collected on Thursdays (Fridays during a holiday week) and must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on pick-up day; however, recycling will be collected only every other week.  The recycling collection schedule can be found on the Government Access Cable Channel 25 and the Village website.  Information is also available at Village Hall and Oscar Grady Library.

During the week of December 8th, the trash and recycling carts will be delivered curbside to all residents.  A flier will be placed in the carts, PLEASE READ IT.  All recyclables (paper, cardboard, glass, cans and plastic) are to be placed in the same cart.  Residents may use the carts or continue with bags or bins through the end of December.  After January 1, 2009 only the carts may be used.  The recycling schedule will be posted on Village Cable Channel 25, the Village website, and at Oscar Grady Library.  Large item pickup will remain the same. Starting February 1, 2009, the large carts may be changed for a smaller one by calling Veolia.

From February 1 until April 30, 2009, residents will have the option to exchange either cart for a smaller 65-gallon cart at no charge. Residents can view a 96- and 65-gallon cart at Village Hall.  Residents requiring additional carts will need to contract Veolia directly to arrange for the additional service and fee payment.  All recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, metal) can be placed in the same cart; there is no need to separate them anymore.  Residents are urged not to place trash loosely in the carts as this will lead to odor and pest problems as well as blowing materials when the carts are emptied.  After January 1, 2009, any trash or recyclable materials placed curbside in any container other than the carts will not be collected.

Large item pick-up service has not changed.  To dispose of large items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances, you still need to arrange for special pick-up by Veolia or take the item(s) to the Veolia drop-off site in West Bend.  There is a fee for large item disposal.  Contact Veolia directly (1-800-387-0949) for prices and information.  Residents generating large amounts of refuse should also arrange for special pick-up in advance before placing trash curbside or arrange for dumpster service.

Please note, due to changing financial circumstances and budgetary constraints, the Village Board has determined that it is necessary to charge a separate fee to one, two, and three-family residential properties for the cost of garbage and recycling collection.  This charge is included as a separate line item on the 2008 tax bill.  The 2009 garbage and recycling collection fee is $144 per household unit, which equates to less than $3.00 per week.
