USS Green Bay

Personalization of the USS Green Bay

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt announced the official schedule of events which will take place at the commissioning of the City's namesake ship on January 24th in Long Beach California. An array of items to be placed on board ship were displayed for public viewing and included replica Packers Super Bowl trophies, city street signs to be placed in the hallways of the ship, a large mural and photo displays depicting what Green Bay is all about. These items are meant to connect the ship and its sailors to their new "hometown".
See all the photo displays on the USS Green Bay web site.

Manufacturing Grants

Note: Although the application deadline has passed, there still is money available.  Call the Economic Development department at 448-3086 for more information.
Mayor Jim Schmitt announced the Manufacturing Improvement Assistance Grant Program has been re-authorized and commissioned for a final round of applications.  The city has teamed with the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP) to administer the grant program.  Eligible manufacturers located within the city limits of Green Bay with less than 500 employees may receive up to $4,000 with a 50% match.  Since the inception of the grant program over $140,000 in awards have been given out to 31 Green Bay companies.  “WMEP offers Green Bay companies the opportunity to really upgrade their business and leverage the training investments they have already made.  We’re seeing outstanding results from those manufacturers that have taken advantage of the program, and it is definitely helping Green Bay to weather the national economic situation,” said Mayor Schmitt. Application deadline is January 6, 2009.
