Christmas Tree Recycling Pickup
The City of Sheboygan's annual Christmas tree recycling pickup
will be the week of January 12th through January 16, 2009,
weather permitting, on the same day as your garbage pickup.
Your Christmas tree will
be picked up at the CURB ONLY
the same day of your regular garbage pickup.
There will be
NO ALLEY
pickup for your Christmas trees.
The trees are recycled
by grinding them into wood chips, which are made available to
the public free of charge.
For this reason please, DO NOT place
your tree in a plastic bag.
Wreaths
should be placed with your normal garbage for collection.
If
you wish you can bring your Christmas tree to the Resident
Drop-Off Site, at 2026 New Jersey Ave.
The hours of operation are:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to
6:00 P.M.
Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
At the Drop-Off Site, trees should be placed in the bin,
which is normally used for branches.

Adopt-A-Hydrant
The Sheboygan
Fire Department encourages residents to 'adopt a fire hydrant'
near their home or business and keep snow shoveled away from it
during the winter season. Recent snowfalls in the area,
along with the associated plowing, can lead to fire hydrants
becoming obstructed and covered from view.
Water is the principle agent used by the fire department to
control and extinguish fires. At a fire, the Fire Department
must quickly locate and access a water supply source from the
closest fire hydrant. If a fire hydrant is buried by snow,
it is difficult to locate, and valuable time must be spent digging
it out. The time spent accessing a water supply may delay
the fire attack and allow a fire to grow and delay potential
rescue.
Please make it a point to uncover your fire hydrant after every
snowfall. Clear a path approximately 3 feet around the
hydrant. This enables the fire department to quickly locate
the hydrant and gives firefighters the room to work with this
hydrant should the need arise. Also, please consider helping
a neighbor who is elderly or has a medical condition by shoveling
out a hydrant in front of their home. This act of kindness
will benefit the entire neighborhood and the community.
The 'Adopt A Hydrant" program is an informal program; therefore it
is not necessary to advise the fire department about which
hydrants you will be keeping clear of snow.
On behalf of the Sheboygan Fire Department and the City of
Sheboygan, thank you for keeping the community's fire hydrants
clear of snow and helping to keep our community safe!
In the interest of public safety,
Fire Chief Jay Lastusky
City of Sheboygan Fire Department

Winter Parking Rules
The City of Sheboygan Department of Public
Works is reminding residents of the City of Sheboygan that
Winter Parking Rules go effect December 1st
and remain in effect through April 1st.
Citizens are reminded of the
following winter parking regulations, between the hours of 2 a.m
and 6 a.m. and vehicles parking on the street shall be parked as
follows:
Alternate Side Parking:
Vehicles must alternate sides for
overnight parking.
-
On odd-numbered days, between the hours
of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., vehicles shall only be parked on that
side of the street having odd-numbered street addresses
(East and South side)
-
On even-numbered days, between the hours
of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., vehicles shall only be parked on that
side of the street having even-numbered street addresses
(West and North side)
Citizens shall remember
to “PARK FOR TOMORROW” because the winter parking regulations
are only in effect from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. (When you go to bed on
December 1st,
you would park your car on the even side because the hours of 2
a.m. and 6 a.m. would be the next day – December 2nd,
an even day).
Streets posted with no parking restrictions
shall remain in effect and are not under the alternate side
parking rules; snow emergency rules supersede winter parking
rules.
For
more information, call the City’s Info-Line at 459-3460.

Winter Garbage Pickup Guidelines
With the winter season upon us, the City of Sheboygan Department
of Public Works Sanitation Division would like to remind
citizens of Sheboygan not to place their garbage/recyclables on
the snow banks!
Please clear a place along the curb where you may place your
garbage. Again,
DO NOT PLACE YOUR GARBAGE ON THE SNOW BANK!
If you have alley pickup, please clear a place parallel
to the alley line.
As more
snow is likely, and the snow banks will continue to get higher
from the snowplows, as a result it will be more difficult for
the Sanitation Operators to pick up garbage without injury.
Failure to comply with this notice may result in your
garbage/recyclables not being collected.
The City of Sheboygan thanks you for your cooperation.

Wisconsin Public Service to Take Samples from Sheboygan River
Former Manufactured-Gas Site
Sometime in June 2008, Wisconsin Public Service will begin to
investigate Sheboygan River sediments associated with the former
Campmarina manufactured-gas plant. The initial
investigation will include mapping the river bottom using
sophisticated sonar equipment and then actually taking samples
from the riverbed.
The work area is in the vicinity of Water Street Park. WPS
expects to complete its sampling by September 2008.
"As people probably know, we cleaned up the land near the
Campmarina site a few years ago," said Brian Bartoszek,
Remediation Manager for WPS. "Now the effort shifts to the
riverbed. Once we determine the characteristics of any
contamination, we'll develop a remediation plan to take care of
it"
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing oversight of
the investigation.
