The library is pleased to provide individuals or organizations the opportunity to participate in building its collections through donations of new or used materials. Gifts of materials enrich our collections often providing items that would be otherwise difficult to obtain.

We must be selective in what we accept and are glad to discuss how closely potential donations fit with our Collection Development Policy. In general we do not accept textbooks or materials damaged or defaced through extensive use. Upon receipt, gifts become the property of the library and all issues of processing and disposition will be decided solely at the discretion of library staff. We reserve the right to dispose of any items that do not meet our needs.

Gift Acknowledgement

All gifts are recorded in the library�s development records and are formally acknowledged by letter. The letter will include a brief description of the donation but the library does not generally provide detailed listings of donated materials nor are staff able to provide an exact reconstruction of the contents of a gift for tax purposes at a later date. To assist the acknowledgement process we request that your name and address accompany your donation.

Appraisals and Tax Considerations

Valuation or appraisal of a gift for tax purposes is the responsibility of the donor. The library encourages donors to discuss questions of valuation and appraisal of charitable deductions for gifts-in-kind with their attorney or a tax expert.
