GEF publication wins Creativity Award Competition

WASHINGTON DC, January 16, 2009 - "Financing the Stewardship of Global Biodiversity", one of the latest GEF publication on Biodiversity has received two awards at the 38 competition of the Creativity Annual Awards. The publication, design by Design Nut, won a Silver Award for the Cover Book and received a second award for interior book design.

2009 is for the Birds

WASHINGTON DC, January 12, 2009 - Argentina’s penguins rang in 2009 with a new marine park that will protect their nesting grounds onshore as well as their feeding grounds at sea. The park is home to half a million Magellanic Penguins, along with several species of rare seabirds and the region’s only population of South American fur seals.

More GEF projects aim at a common objective

WASHINGTON, DC - January 09, 2009 - The 34th Council approved $201.17 million for funding 37 new GEF projects, that were included in the work program. Fifteen of the projects proposals approved are in Biodiversity, eight in Climate Change, five in International Water, one in Land Degradation, while eight proposals are multifocal.

The GEF in charge of supporting the transfer of technologies programme

WASHINGTON DC, December 15, 2008 - The Conference of the Parties has welcomed the GEF strategic programme on technology transfer as a step towards scaling up the level of investment in technology transfer and has requested the GEF to consider the long-term implementation of the strategic programme.

The World Bank and GEF to Help Improve the Quality of Croatia’s Coastal Waters

WASHINGTON, December 11, 2008 – The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved a EUR60 million loan and a US6.4 million Global Environment Facility Grant to the Republic of Croatia to help combat pollution along the country’s coast.
