Essex County offers outdoor enthusiasts vast, scenic, tranquil, forever-wild wilderness areas with the highest mountains in the Adirondacks and New York State. The County is also known for excellent trout fishing in numerous streams, rivers, and lakes, including the Ausable, Champlain, Placid, and Schroon.

The County was also the site of numerous historic and strategic military conflicts in the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars, many of which occurred in and around Fort Ticonderoga and the Crown Point State Historic Site. More photos and a slide showcourtesy of Don Markwica.
