GeoNetwork opensource Community website
GeoNetwork opensource is a standards based, Free and Open Source catalog application to manage spatially referenced resources through the web. It provides powerful metadata editing and search functions as well as an embedded interactive web map viewer. This website contains information related to the use of the software.
Current stable version: v2.2.0 (4 April 2008)
Previous stable version: v2.1.0 (21 September 2007)
The software is released under the GPL license and can be used and modified free of charge.
Software and flyer
The GeoNetwork opensource desktop and server 2.0.3(! old release) software, a flyer and all the required supporting software and manuals are available on a DVD with a printed Quick Start Guide. The Flyer gives a good overview of the capabilities of GeoNetwork opensource software.
The DVD also includes a wide range of other Free and Open Source Software of interest to the geospatial community (among others GeoServer, MapServer, gvSIG, uDig, QGIS, GRASS, MapBuilder, MapLab, ka-map, PostGIS and NASA World Wind) for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

You can obtain the GeoNetwork opensource DVD in three different ways:
- By browsing the content online here.
- By downloading the ISO image here (2000MB!)(hosted at OSGEO). You can than burn your own DVD from the ISO image.
- We ran out of printed of the package, so they cannot be requested at present. Sorry for that.

Technical Specification
GeoNetwork opensource implements both the Portal component and the Catalog database of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) defined in the OGC Reference Architecture. It provides tools for managing and publishing metadata on spatial data and related services. GeoNetwork opensource allows a distributed search providing access to a huge volume of metadata that come from different Clearinghouses and also provides a web-based interactive map viewer that allows people to composite maps picking layers from distributed servers on the internet.
