New Biotechnology Teacher's Guide

A new Bring Biotechnology To Life Teacher's Guide has been developed to accompany the Bring Biotechnology To Life videotape. Divided into three units, the teacher's guide has activities that connect to the student's previous knowledge, introduce biotechnology and explore one of the issues facing the use of genetically modified organisms in the food system. The 45-page guide includes It is Nothing New; Introduction to Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering; and a Timeline of Biotechnology activities in the first unit titled "It's Nothing New." The second unit "Life's Template - DNA" contains Find Your Own DNA and Gel Electrophoresis instructions. The instructional packet ends with The GMO Debate: Facts and Opinions unit and an activity, To Label or Not to Label that explores the opinions of a cross section of interested parties on the issue of labeling genetically modified foods. This teacher's guide is intended to be used in conjunction with the video which is to be shown in its entirety as part of the first unit but can be shown in segments during other portions of the program.

The Bring Biotechnology To Life Teacher's Guide and video are available from the foundation on the Web site for $5.00 per copy. Quantity discounts are available in orders above 50 copies.
