New Web Site Shows Kids
How Ag Connects to Everyday Life
Children around the country and the world can visit a new web site to see why science knows no boundaries. The site highlights work by USDA scientists who search overseas for natural controls to weed and insect pests, as alternatives to pesticides. Looking for Something to Celebrate?
Try National Pig Day on March 1st
Okay, so you've dutifully celebrated Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday. Must you now settle into a Lenten lull in the celebrations calendar until St. Patrick's Day on March 17 and National Ag Day on March 20, the first day of spring?

Don't despair! There is always National Pig Day on March 1. Check out the web site Pork 4 Kids at http://www.pork4kids.com/.

Designed by the National Pork Producers Council, this site has plenty of interactive ideas for kids and teachers. Try building a cyber sandwich or making a wearable chef's hat. Take a tour of a hog farm with Michael and Bethany or view a cartoon based on the food pyramid. Just go hog wild!

K-State Research - ExtensionKids Can Have a Field Day with Web Site
The Kids' Field Day Web site will help non-farm kids understand the importance of agriculture in everyday life. The site was developed by Jim Shroyer, a crops specialist with Kansas State University Research and Extension. Shroyer said, "My goal was to make sure non-agricultural people realize that there's more to agriculture than meets the eye. There's a lot of science that goes into making a box of Cheerios or Wheaties." Check it out at www.oznet.ksu.edu/fieldday/kids/.
