Welcome to Storey County, Nevada. Legends of the Old West don’t get any richer than they are here. Storey County earned its place on the map in 1859 when miners discovered the largest deposit ever found of gold and silver in Virginia City, which pumped nearly half a billion dollars into the economy of the United States. This discovery ultimately heralded Storey County’s Virginia City/Gold Hill as “The Richest Place on Earth.” Long after the gold and silver rush became a memory, Storey County was left with a thriving tourism market that continues to attract over 1.6 million visitors annually. Complimenting the rich history and established tourism draw, Storey County’s growing industrial sector plays an equally important role in its vitality and future economic outlook.

Storey County, the second smallest Nevada county, has built a reputation on always doing things big—one of the biggest gold and silver discoveries in history and now, home to the United State’s largest industrial park, the
Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRI). This 104,000 acre center, located in the community of McCarran, has the capacity of 80-million-square-feet of industrial space. Companies already at TRI include Kal Kan Pet Foods, APL Logistics, distributors of Dell Computers, Alcoa, James Hardie, Royal Sierra Extrusions, Golden Gate Petroleum and others. Soon to be at TRI are Wal-Mart, with a one million square foot distribution center, Trans Western Polymers, and Frank-Lin rectifiers. Also located in the TRI area are three sophisticated power plants: Sierra Pacific Power, Barrick Mines and Naniwa (a power plant that provides additional power support during peak hours).

Today, Storey County’s rich, living legacy unites with high-tech modernization that’s enjoyed by residents, businesses and visitors alike. This county offers a variety of small-town communities that are merely minutes away from large metropolitan areas—the best of both worlds. We invite you to learn more about this progressive county and the benefits of living, shopping, working and playing here.
