Law Enforcement Survey Available

As part of the process of studying the delivery of law enforcement services in Vermont, the Massachusetts-based consulting firm hired by the state has posted a survey online to help them gauge what Vermonters want from their policing entities.

The survey results will be incorporated into a report due to the legislature in January. The study, authorized last session, was designed to review the current law enforcement structure in Vermont and make recommendations to improve or alter that structure. The survey is available here and will be available until December 31, 2008 at 8:00 p.m

Annual Report, Dues Available

Each November, the VLCT Board approves dues for its fiscal year, July 1 - June 30, to give members time to incorporate the figure into their calendar year budgets. Dues for FY10 were recently set at $.86 per capita, based on the 2007 U.S. Census population estimates figures. The per-municipality service fee is $550. Along with the dues notice, VLCT members received a copy of a one-page overview of the League's activities in 2007. Members may wish to include this overview in their Town Reports, to educate their taxpayers about the municipal association to which their town belongs. Should a question arise at Town Meeting about the dues paid to VLCT, voters could easily be referred to the overview for a better understanding of what the town receives from VLCT in exchange for its dues.

The 2008 summary is available as a PDF file on the About VLCT page.
