WESTLUND TAKES OATH AS TREASURER, PLEDGES TO HELP BOOST ECONOMY
Line
Ben Westlund was sworn in on Jan. 5, 2009, as Oregon State Treasurer, pledging to advance smart solutions that help Oregon’s economy, to bolster education about financial security, to strengthen accountability for the financial sector, and to promote management of Oregon’s assets to help secure a more prosperous future.
"In these difficult times, an Oregon State Treasurer with the right priorities can help," Westlund said.
"I will promote sound financial management to bolster Oregon’s credit rating and to ensure that public employee retirement funds are there, when needed. I also will strengthen the state’s college savings plan to help Oregon families prepare for the future."

WESTLUND LAUNCHES
"BUY OREGON BONDS" CAMPAIGN
Line
From the scenic Oregon coast to the rugged Oregon Outback on the east side of the state -- and at all points in between – construction projects are on the drawing board to improve roads, schools, universities and other public buildings.
That work will help to speed freight and traffic flows, ensure a better education environment for Oregon’s next generation, and replace the aging Oregon State Hospital in Salem. At the same time, those projects will help to create and sustain thousands of construction jobs, which will help to invigorate the economy.
And you can help make those projects happen, and get a guaranteed return.

COURTNEY, WESTLUND TO PROPOSE
PREPAID TUITION PLAN
Line
Treasurer-elect Ben Westlund and Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, announced that they will work together to bring Oregon families an additional way to save money to send their children and grandchildren to college – and in a way that won’t be subject to fluctuations in the stock market.
