Welcome to the City of Brawley. The City of Brawley is in the heart of the Imperial County, which is located in the southeastern part of the State of California. It is situated approximately 210 miles southeast of Los Angeles, 126 miles east of San Diego, and 30 miles north of Mexicali, Mexico. Brawley is a general law city incorporated in 1908 and has a Council Manager form of government. The 2007 population is estimated to be 25,694 as reported by the State Department of Finance. |
Message From Mayor John R. Benson
Welcome to Brawley! Our city‘s western look and small town friendliness is the envy of Imperial Valley and beyond. As we gear up for our 51st Cattle Call celebration and rodeo, the week long event gives the locals a chance to show their hospitality. Last year’s attendees from throughout the southwest reached 52,000.
Agriculture and the cattle industry are deeply rooted as employers for our workforce with strong growth in the areas of meat processing and geothermal energy along with the construction industry.
Brawley supports education. Ten years ago Brawley citizens voted FOR Bond Measure T - $10 million dollars for renovation and improvements to the Brawley Union High School campus. With strong local support, matching fund grants and creative thinking the project is now complete with value totaling $21 million dollars. At the college level, we look forward to our continued partnership with San Diego State University, Brawley Campus, to provide individuals with diversified educational opportunities.
Brawley’s pioneering spirit again has been shown through the outstanding effort of volunteers donating time and skills in the construction of two regulation Little League fields on land donated by the city. Completion accomplished from start to finish within 6 months – just in time for the 2007 opener!
This year the city has dedicated a new Library and Community Center Complex, and we look forward to the grand opening of the new Super Wal-Mart, and Best Western Motel.
