Welcome to Orinda!

The City of Orinda is committed to providing excellent service to the community with a focus on  public safety, sound land use planning, infrastructure improvements, and responsible fiscal management of City funds. 

The City, incorporated in 1985, offers the following functions to better serve the citizens of Orinda:  Police, Public Works and Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Planning, and Administrative Services. The governing board, the City Council, is comprised of five elected officials each serving four-year terms. The City Council, each year prior to adopting an operating budget, establishes Major Goals and Objectives during their public Strategic Planning Workshops.   The Major Goals and Objectives set the blueprint for the City’s priorities during that year.

The public is invited to attend a workshop to hear presentations and provide input on draft recommendations to revitalize downtown Orinda and on the residential development regulations and review processes. Public input from the workshop will be considered in preparation of a final report by the Planning Process Review Task Force. The workshop will be led by members of the Task Force established by the City Council with the purpose of developing recommendations for a streamlined, objective and user-friendly review process without compromising the semi-rural residential and downtown village character of Orinda.

It is not necessary to attend the workshop to provide input on the draft recommendations.  You may submit your comments to Emmanuel Ursu, Planning Director at eursu@cityoforinda.org.  Please provide your comments by Monday, January 12, 2009.

Orinda Selects New Mayor

The Orinda City Council annual reorganization meeting took place Tuesday, December 2, 2008. During the reorganization meeting, the Council accepted the Contra Costa County’s Election Department certification of the 2008 election.

 

Before a packed auditorium, the City Council appointed Sue Severson to serve as Mayor for the 2009 year.  Sue, who was elected to a four year term in November 2006 and served as Vice Mayor in 2008,  promised to “keep communication open” between the City and the people of Orinda. The City Council also appointed Tom McCormick to serve as Vice Mayor in 2009.  Tom was elected to a four-year term in November 2006 and works as an attorney in Orinda. 

 

Incumbent Council Members Victoria Smith and Steve Glazer were administered the Oath of Office seating both of them for second four year terms.
