Craven County bears the name of William, Earl of Craven, one of the eight original
Lord Proprietors of the province of Carolina, and his nephew, William, Lord Craven, who succeeded him as Lord Proprietor. Established in 1712, Craven County was the site of North Carolina's first capital, New Bern. For more details, click here.
Register of Deeds
*A new Fee Schedule, effective October 1, 2008, has been posted by the Register of Deeds. The additional funds are collected by the State of North Carolina for floodplain mapping.
Craven County Register of Deeds index information and certain imaged documents recorded after November 19, 1999 are available for on-line searching and printing. This is the date the Craven County Register of Deeds began using new computer software for its indexing and imaging responsibilities.
