Help “picture” what the Kansas City region’s future should look like
What do people value in Kansas City today? What do they want to see more of in the future?
MARC is hosting a contest to challenge area photographers to explore the character and places they value in the Kansas City region — from Olathe to Kearney and Platte City to Harrisonville. Join the conversation about what our "picture" should be for the year 2040, and how transportation can help achieve the vision.
The deadline to submit photos is Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008. Learn more>
Vote for TV ad most likely to change unsafe driving habits
This fall, metro area residents put their creative wheels in gear and submitted original concepts for a 30-second TV public service ad on safe driving as part of the Destination: Safe contest. Throughout November, the public can vote online for a winner from three finalist concepts that address impaired driving, aggressive driving or safety belt use in the most compelling way. The region’s
Destination: Safe Coalition is partnering with the Kansas and Missouri
Departments of Transportation and KCTV 5 to present the contest. The winner will receive four VIP tickets to a Chiefs game in the KCTV 5 suite, and will have his or her public service ad professionally produced and aired on television during a Chiefs game in December. Learn

Region begins planning for future transportation spending
How
would you spend billions of dollars to fund transportation projects in
the Kansas City region over the next 30 years? The Mid-America
Regional Council has begun an 18-month process to update the region’s
long-range transportation plan — Transportation Outlook 2040. The
plan budgets the federal transportation funds that the region expects
to receive for the next three decades. What should our priorities be? Learn

Imagine KC workshops probe public
opinion
on sustainability issues
Citizens discuss sustainability issues during a breakout session
at the Imagine KC kickoff event.
Nearly 80 citizens attended the Imagine KC project kickoff event on
Oct. 11 to discuss their ideas for a more sustainable future for Greater
Kansas City. Now the themes from that event are being taken back to citizens
for evaluation during a series of six community workshops. The workshops
will help develop questions that will be asked during Imagine KC’s
live, televised forum finale at Kansas City Public Television’s
(KCPT) studios on April 22, 2009, and at several simultaneous satellite
locations. Each of the six workshops will focus on a different community,
and most of the events are open to the public.
