The City of Festus was incorporated in 1887 originally as a fourth class city with a Mayor and Board of Aldermen.  During the 1930's, the City elected to change to a third class city with a city council form of government.  Council members serve two year terms and the Mayor, who is elected city-wide, serves a four year term.  In 1976 the city again reconstituted itself, electing to establish a Mayor/Council/Administrator form of government.  The City of Festus has eight city council members serving four wards.

The City of Festus, Missouri is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Court Clerk.  This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring three evening court sessions per month.  Applicants must be bondable, have a valid Missouri drivers license and a high school diploma or its equivalent.  Missouri Association of Court Clerk Administrator's certification, MULES certification and an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.  Pay range is $29,100 to $37,100 plus excellent benefits.  Please forward a cover letter, resume and three professional references to:  City Administrator, 711 W. WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE WORK ON MILL STREET?

City workers have been replacing old water lines all along Mill Street in preparation for the major street rehabilitation scheduled for the summer of 2009.  There are plans to replace storm sewers and sanitary sewer mains where needed.  Hopefully, this will keep the City from having to tear up the street after the new asphalt surface is applied next summer!
