On any given day, about 250,000 automobiles are in use in Seattle; 100,000 cars, taxis and trucks compete for space in Central Business District alone. The city has a parking meter program in the business districts and a residential parking zone program in some neighborhoods. Depending on time of year, between 4,000 - 8,000 people commute around the city on bicycles. Seattle has 27 miles of off-street bikeways. A key city bikeway is the Burke-Gilman Trail.
