ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION IN KENNER

Kenner Mayor Ed Muniz will present donated trees to schools located in Kenner on Friday as part of a communitywide effort to celebrate Arbor Day.

"We sometimes forget that trees do more than improve the aesthetics. They are a vital part of ecological system in south Louisiana," Muniz said.

CAREFUL BUDGETING AND STRONG MANAGEMENT MEET GOAL
Audit Confirms Careful Fiscal Projections

Kenner revenues for Fiscal 2007-08 came in under budget by less than 1 percent while expenditures were held to about 2 percent below projections, according to a report released by the city's audit firm.

Mayor Ed Muniz said Wednesday the conclusions drawn by the audit firm, Duplantier, Hrapmann, Hogan & Mayer LLP, are a testament to his administration's conservative business practices and very close fiscal control of Kenner's business operations. The firm is hired by the City Council.

KENNER HIRES CITY'S FIRST ECONOMIC DEVELOPER
JEDCO veteran to serve Kenner interests

An economic development official has been hired by the city of Kenner to implement an economic development strategy created by Mayor Ed Muniz' Economic Development Committee in 2007. Short and long term goals are part of the proposed program of work.

Lacey Guidry, a two-year veteran of the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission, has been hired through a cooperative endeavor agreement by Muniz.

Kenner Council elects new officers

Kenner District 3 Councilman Ben Zahn was unanimously elected president of the Kenner City Council at its first meeting of the new year Thursday night. He succeeds District 2 Councilman Joe Stagni and will serve as council president for the next six months. Division B At-Large Councilwoman Jeannie Black was elected vice president of the council.

The action fits in with the council's plans to rotate the presidency and vice-presidency among all its members during a normal term of office.
