The City of Ashtabula is located on Lake Erie's coastline about an hour between Cleveland, Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania.   We are proud of our City and invite you to explore our website and discover a small sampling of what Ashtabula has to offer.   Our name, Ashtabula, is the softening of an Algonquin Indian term originally pronounced "Hush-tah-buh-lah", which signified our Ashtabula River as "River of many fish.  We have several marinas located on the Ashtabula River.   Please refer to our "Things To Do" page for listings. 

Walnut Beach is a city-owned park that features a wildlife preserve, swimming beach with lifeguards, playgound, volleyball and basketball courts, picnic tables, a concession stand, and a short boardwalk.   Walnut Beach offers a good view of Ashtabula's historic lighthouse.  Walnut Boulevard is also home to the Hubbard House and Marine museums.   The 19th century home of the Hubbard family tells the history of the Underground Railroad.   The Great Lakes Marine Museum features displays about shipping on the Great Lakes.  Check out the Marine Musuem's live webcam of Lake Erie.  It offers several different views.  Across the street, is Point Park which overlooks the Ashtabula River and our famous bascule lift bridge which goes up every half hour during the summer.   There are brick steps leading from Point Park to Bridge Street where there are many quaint shops and restaurants that line the historic Bridge Street shopping district.   There are several Bed & Breakfast places in the area,  most in historic homes. 

Downtown Ashtabula offers shops, North and South Parks and dining facilities.   North Park features live music mid-week during the summer noon hour.

Close to Ashtabula are more parks on the Lakeshore, specialty dinning restaurants, wineries, Ashtabula Mall, and many beautiful covered bridges.  Nearby Lakeshore Park is also on Lake Erie's coastline and offers a swimming beach with lifeguards, playgound, picnic tables, a concession stand, and a pond where you can feed the ducks.   In the summer time, there are antique car shows.   The end of November and December, Lakeshore Park is home to Ashtabula Lights on the Lake.
