Mortality in California Hospitals - a research brief
Mortality in California Hospitals is the first in a series of research briefs about the quality and safety of healthcare in California’s hospitals. “Mortality in California Hospitals, 2006” provides information on patient deaths that occurred in a hospital. The brief identifies in-hospital mortality rates, top 5 admitting diagnoses of patients that die in-hospital, end-of-life preferences, conditions associated with higher mortality rates and factors that most strongly predict death.

Putting the Pieces Together - Calling all Data Users!!
The Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) presents "Putting the Pieces Together" - A Data Users Conference. OSHPD's First Annual Data Users' Conference will take place in March 2009. The conference will be held on Tuesday, March 10 in Los Angeles, and on Monday, March 23 in Sacramento. The Conference agenda includes:
  • Currently available data and products, including Web-based resources
  • Examples of real-world applications, including presentations by experienced OSHPD data users
  • Financial and utilization data, including online search and analysis tools
  • New products such as OSHPD’s Healthcare Atlas
  • How to request OSHPD financial, utilization, and patient-level data
  • Overview of outcome reports and data briefs

California Healthcare Workforce Clearinghouse

California Healthcare Workforce Clearinghouse
The California Healthcare Workforce Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) is being established to serve as the central source for the collection of health workforce and education data in the state. The Clearinghouse will collect, analyze, and distribute information on the education and employment trends for healthcare occupations. OSHPD will work closely with the Employment Development Department's Labor Market Information Division, state health licensing boards, and state higher education entities to retrieve data for the Clearinghouse.


2020 Seismic Safety Extension
The 2020 Seismic Safety Extension allows acute care hospitals that meet strict financial hardship criteria to receive a seven year extension from the 2013 seismic safety deadlines and instead require the hospitals to replace those buildings by January 1, 2020.
