Connecticut Grown Tents Available Soon
  After many requests, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture has ordered 150 CT Grown tents. These eye-catching canopies are commonly seen at the 114 farmers’ markets and several roadside stands throughout the state.

Farmland Preservation Up-Date
  The Farmland Preservation Program continues its important work in preserving Connecticut’s farmland. On December 12, 2008, the State Bond Commission approved $5,000,000 in funds for the purchase of development rights to qualified farms throughout Connecticut. Combined with $10,000,000 from bonding last December 2007 and February 2008, the Program can confidently and aggressively work through its list of farmers ready and willing to preserve Connecticut’s agricultural heritage.

Governor Rell Announces $907,055 in Grants for Farms, Non-Profit Ag Groups and Municipalities Agriculture Viability Grants to Fund Wide Range of Projects Statewide
  Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that the state Department of Agriculture has awarded nearly $1 million in matching funds to more than two dozen farms, non-profit agricultural organizations and municipalities for a variety of projects ranging from a new farmers’ market to greenhouse expansion.

  Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that federal disaster loans are available to agricultural cooperatives, small businesses and most private non-profit groups in Fairfield County that suffered losses from the severe rainstorms this past spring.

Governor Rell Announces Low Interest Loans for Farm-related Businesses Affected by Summer Storms
  Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that federal economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes in the entire State of Connecticut as a result of extreme storms with abnormally high rainfall, high winds, hail, lightning and flooding that occurred that occurred July 27, 2008 through August 12, 2008.

  Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that $5 million for farmland preservation is expected to be approved by the State Bond Commission at its meeting on December 12.

Governor Rell Announces Emergency Loans Available to Farmers for Crop Losses
  Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that U.S. Agriculture Secretary Edward Schafer has granted her request to issue a natural disaster designation for several counties hit by severe storms this summer, allowing farmers across the state to apply for emergency aid to cover crop losses.
