Welcome to the Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) Program. KARS is a research program of the Kansas Biological Survey at the University of Kansas that conducts research on environmental and agricultural applications of remote sensing technology. In cooperation with its commercial partner TerraMetrics, Inc., KARS facilitates technology transfer of products and services derived from remote sensing technologies to commercial, governmental, and other end users.

KARS is pleased to announce the development of a data portal for the new land cover dataset developed for the Kansas River Watershed. This work was completed for the NSF EPSCoR grant entitled "Ecological Forecasting of the Central Great Plains". The portal contains links to the dataset for use in Google Earth and ESRI ArcMap 9.2.


2005 Kansas Land Cover Patterns

KARS is pleased to announce the release of the latest land use/land cover map of Kansas and is available here. This work was co-funded by the Kansas GIS Policy Board and NSF EPSCoR. The dataset is designed for use in ESRI ArcMap 9.2.


KansasView provides free access to imagery, data, and information covering the Kansas landscape for use in education, research and local government applications.

The GreenReport
A weekly report available throughout the growing season that is used to monitor the progress and relative conditions of crops and natural vegetation throughout the conterminous United States.


The GreenReport for the state of Kansas is a weekly report that can be used to monitor the progress and relative conditions of crops and natural vegetation. The site also provides links to the Kansas Water Office Drought Page, to USDA's drought index and soil moisture maps, and to local and national crop reports.

 

KSID is a database of ASTER, Landsat, and MODIS imagery and image-derived map products covering Kansas.
