Long Term Care

What benefits are available?

Answer:

The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) provides long term care insurance to help pay for costs of care when enrollees need help with activities they perform every day, or have a severe cognitive impairment, such as Alzheimers disease. Long term care insurance helps pays for long term care services in many settings, such as at home, a nursing home, assisted living facility, and adult dependent care facility.

Many people decide to buy long term care insurance so they will not need to deplete their savings should they need long term care services.

The FLTCIP is medically underwritten. This means you will need to answer questions about your medical history. Certain medical conditions, or combinations of conditions, will prevent some people from being approved for coverage. You need to apply to find out if you qualify for coverage under the FLTCIP. If you are approved for coverage, pay your premiums, and you meet the insurance carrier’s criteria for benefit payment, you will be reimbursed for covered long term care services up to the amount of your daily benefit after you satisfy the waiting period.
