Company makes camelina biodiesel a reality

There's a new player fueling the alternative energy market and it's picking up speed as fossil fuels continue to fall short. Camelina, an oilseed crop in the same family as mustard, is currently being grown throughout the United States and Canada and crushed to produce biodiesel by Great Plains-The Camelina Company.

Equipment manufacturers announce new inductees

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) announced five new inductees for the AEM Hall of Fame, which recognizes, celebrates and preserves the history of outstanding leaders in the off-road equipment industry. The induction took place during the AEM Annual Conference Nov. 11, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Monsanto Company has completed a $3 million expansion project at its Jerseyville, Ill., location. The site was the host of the world's first biotechnology field trials in 1987, on tomatoes and Roundup Ready soybeans. The facilty manages field trials for Monsanto's dicamba-tolerant soybeans, water efficient cotton, nitrogen efficient corn and more.

Osborne Industries, Inc., Osborne, Kan., celebrated 35 years of business in November 2008. The company was established by a group of local businessmen to boost the Osborne area economy and provide jobs for local families. Today, it is a leading manufacturer of industrial, agricultural, and consumer products, and is a leading employer in Osborne County with 112 employees.

Charlie Meis, vice president of engineering at Lindsay Corporation, has been awarded the Irrigation Association's 2008 Industry Achievement Award for his contributions to agriculture and the irrigation industry.

Makhteshim Agan of North America, Inc. (MANA), hired Brent Cranfill to its commercial team as an area business manager covering the territory of west Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and southern Colorado.

Fontanelle Hybrids, Fontanelle, Neb., has hired Wade Blakeley as a District Sales Manager. Blakeley's territory includes Southeast Colorado and Southwest Kansas.
