We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Research
Associate to join a dynamic team working in our molecular
marker discovery group within the Monsanto Vegetable Division in
Woodland, California. The ideal candidate should have a
solid understanding of molecular biology, genetics and
bioinformatics. The position requires strong attention to detail
and the ability to work in a team environment and facilitate
complex projects under the direction of the marker discovery
lead scientist.
Responsibilities:

Exploit data analysis of
traditional Sanger sequencing as well as next generation
sequencing technologies.

The successful candidate will
work in a cross-functional matrix environment, interacting
with members of Breeding, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and
Breeding Technology organizations.
Required
Skills/Experience/Attributes:
-
Bachelor’s degree and at least
3 years of experience in molecular biology, genetics, plant
science or related fields; Master’s degree preferred.

Previous training in molecular
biology or plant genetics is highly desirable.

DNA extraction, PCR, gel and
capillary electrophoresis, simple cloning, sequencing and
primer design skills.

Familiarity with basic MS
office programs (Word, Excel and Access).

Excellent verbal and written
communication skills.
Desired
Skills/Experience/Attributes:

Ability to work with large and
complex projects.

Experience with protocol
development.

Sound understanding of
bioinformatics and sequence analysis.
Less than 10% travel time is
expected within this role. Relocation benefits are available to
