POSITION:  Coordinator Project Leader, Molecular Markers

Location: Davis, California

The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team of Project Leaders and technicians dedicated to the species specific molecular markers project.

  • Coordinate the activities for the development and application of strategies and tools in molecular markers for specified species.

  • Define the needs and strategies in molecular marker activities and applications for breeding.

  • Develop, implement, and apply state of the art molecular marker projects.

  • Provide scientific support, within the scope of competencies, to other research teams.

  • Train regular and temporary staff assigned to projects, in order to lead and coordinate their activity.

  • Analyze, summarize, and report on the molecular markers team activities, as well as the results linked to their projects. 

  • Transfer new markers to the “application” team of the Business Unit.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum MS in Molecular Biology and Plant Genetics or equivalent required; PhD Preferred.

  • Minimum 5 to 8 years experience in molecular biology, research or biology, or equivalent required.

  • Experience with statistic / biometry a plus.

  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

  • Frequent travel within the United States, and abroad.

Skills required:

  • Ability to initiate and lead projects, with the end result in mind.

  • Proven competencies in molecular biology and plant genetics.

  • Knowledge and command of molecular marker tools and strategies used in plant breeding.

  • Possess strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Open minded, with the ability to collaborate with others.
