POSITION:
Statistical
Geneticist
Limagrain Verneuil Holding, a subsidiary of
Limagrain Group, the
largest independent seed company in the world and European
leader for corn and wheat seeds, is seeking a statistical
geneticist for its Research Department.
The position is open in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Role purpose:
Reporting
to the Biostatistics Unit Manager, you provide
methodological support to our breeding programs in the field
of marker assisted selection, and you are in charge of the
development of the data analysis tools that are needed for
this activity.
Duties/responsibilities:

Provide a
scientific support to our breeding programs in the field of
marker assisted selection (MAS), in particular in the fields
of experimental design and implementation of the projects
aiming at the detection of the marker trait associations
(QTL detection in controlled crosses, linkage disequilibrium
mapping projects), support in the selection of the best
individuals and crosses, integration of the results of
various studies, overall MAS application strategy, etc.

Take part
in the analysis and interpretation of the data coming from
the MAS projects.

Implement
the software tools for statistical analysis and
interpretation of the data generated by the MAS projects -
evaluation of available tools (both open-source and
commercial), customisation of existing tools and/or
development of new tools.

Follow
the development of new methods in statistical genetics,
including animal and human genetics (participation to
scientific conferences, bibliographical follow-up) and
evaluate their interest for the company.

Take part
in the training of the co-workers.
Required skills:
-
Ph.D. in
quantitative/statistical genetics or related field.

Experience in plant breeding with emphasis on marker
assisted selection desired.

Extensive
knowledge of statistics and of the statistical software
(R/S+, SAS,…).

Good
computer skills (programming languages, database software).

Fluent in
English.

Proficiency in use of office software.

Excellent
interpersonal skills, capacity of listening and analysing,
capacity of organization, ability to take initiatives and to
work both independently and as a member of a team, excellent
verbal and written communication skills.

The
position involves some travel.
