Making a
Difference
For more than 90 years, University of Maine Cooperative
Extension has conducted community-driven, research-based
educational programs in every Maine county.
In All
Maine Communities
University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s successful
educational programs result from a federal, state and county
partnership. Since 1919, when the Maine Legislature passed the
County Extension Act, the University of Maine has been in all
Maine communities with a local county office that is funded by
county government. Our educational programs respond to local
needs and issues. We also share those community issues and
opportunities with UMaine to inform R&D efforts and activities.

Return on Investment
For every dollar we receive from the University of Maine we leverage another
dollar from the USDA, county government and grants and contracts. The
university’s investment makes us part of a national network of Extension
programs that brings research-based resources from across the country to meet
the needs of Maine people. As the only entity within the University of Maine
System to get county dollars, we pride ourselves in our successful history
working with Maine businesses, families and communities.
Your Local Resource
Our employees serve on a wide range of government boards, commissions, agency
task forces and other local groups. Please contact us to learn what educational
programs are available in your district and how we can be a resource to you in
your work and home.
