Dear Claimant:

As a prevailing class member in the Pigford v. Veneman case - the nationwide class action brought by black farmers alleging race discrimination by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - you have the right to Injunctive Relief. Injunctive Relief is the remedy in the lawsuit that is separate from money damages.

An important development occurred in the case that may affect the exercise of your Injunctive Relief rights. Injunctive Relief for Pigford claimants now expires on April 14, 2005. Originally, Injunctive Relief was to expire in April of 2004. An internal USDA notice issued on July 21, 2003, formally extended the availability of Injunctive Relief for one year.

The enclosed Monitor Update No. 4, "Injunctive Relief" explains your rights. Because you prevailed only on non-credit claim(s) (not a credit claim), you are entitled some - but not all - types of injunctive relief. The details are explained in the enclosed Update. If you have questions or need additional information, please call the Monitor toll free at 1-877-924-7483.

Sincerely,

Office of the Monitor
