POSITION:  Regional Crop Manager, Europe/Middle East/Africa

We are looking to recruit a Regional Crop Manager in Europe/Middle East/Africa (EuMEA).
Hierarchically this position will report to the Global Head of Production.

Job location: The position is based in Haelen, The Netherlands.

Job purpose

Within the specified region, responsible to implement and monitor the execution of the assigned production plan in order to ensure quality and quantity of seed is met in a timely fashion.

Major Accountabilities

Management of the production infrastructure
• Responsible to create and maintain the increase or decrease of the region’s seed production infrastructure, to meet the needs from the global production managers.
• Responsible for utilizing the infrastructure; own farms, direct grower- or 3rd party contacts; to execute and monitor productions in order to realize the requested quantities with consistent quality in a timely fashion.

Infrastructure guidelines
• Implement given production guidelines and crop management procedures within our own production organization and agree upon them with growers or 3rd parties involved in crop management of our productions to meet the production plan as agreed.
• Implement, after consultation with the seed production research department and the global production manager, the Production Improvement Technology (PIT) in regional crop management in order to increase the reliability and quality of yields.

Quality standards
• In coordination with the quality assurance department, ensure all incoming lots meet company quality standards by monitoring crop inspection reports and collecting field data including rouging reports.
• Monitor & review quality in all aspects of the growing crop including the supervision of field isolation, crop rotation, chemical application, and harvesting of production to ensure seed health.

3rd party & grower database
• Establish and maintain a reliable 3rd party and grower database by evaluating the past production practices of the specified species and varieties to ensure consistent quality standards are met.

Reporting and communication
• Through continuous communication and providing monthly reporting, keep the global head of production informed of on-going regional activities and advice on alternatives to optimize and improve the infrastructure to ensure production plans are met.
• Keep the global production managers informed relating to crop changes and to maintain the functional communication relationship and improve reaction time.

HRM and budgetary responsibility
• Advice the global head of production on the CAPEX, expenses and head count planning needed to maintain the regional production infrastructure to ensure a good seed supply.
• Execute and guard the CAPEX and expenses budget; propose actions to maintain efficiency.
• Support employee development through constructive target and goal setting. Provide feedback and counseling on individual progress.

Professional Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field;

  • Seven plus years experience in seed production; with a strong knowledge of growing practices assigned crops;

  • Familiarity with production research practices and field plot techniques;

  • Team player; excellent communication skills, works well with others and outstanding managerial capacities;

  • Strong command of the English language;

  • Computer competent; Microsoft Word, Excel;

  • Should possess the following competencies: Management, analyzing, and performance.

Working conditions

  • Majority of work is conducted in office and outdoors;

  • International & domestic travel required.
