DR. SHARON HADARY RETIRING FROM CENTER FOR WOMEN'S BUSINESS RESEARCH

NEW NUMBERS SHOW WOMEN-OWNED FIRMS COMPRISE FORTY PERCENT OF ALL FIRMS

"Despite challenges to our economy, we are pleased to see that women-owned firms continued to hold their own," said Margaret A. Smith, Chair, Center for Women's Business Research. "The 2008 estimates were calculated using the Center's new proprietary forecast model developed in cooperation with the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University.  Center for Women's Business Research Urges SBA to Revise Its Federal Contracting Plan for Women Business Owners

The Center for Women’s Business Research has submitted testimony to the House Small Business Committee strongly opposing the recent U.S. Small Business Administration proposed rule regarding federal contract opportunities for women-owned businesses.  The result of the proposed ruling would be to hold contracting with women-owned businesses to a more stringent standard than any other segment of the small business community with federal contracting goals.

Looking only at the 6.5 million businesses cited in the 2002 Census that are majority women-owned, we find such large discrepancies in each major industry category that it is apparent that women business owners are under-represented in Federal contracting across the board, instead of in just the four, extremely limited industries identified by the SBA.  Click for full press release and testimony


Study reveals economic impact of Northeast Florida’s women business owners

The Center for Women's Business Research, in partnership with Jacksonville University, recently released a groundbreaking study commissioned by Sandy Bartow, director of the Jacksonville Women's Business Center.  The study quantified the economic impact, obtained benchmarks, and identified the needs of women business owners in Northeast Florida.  it found that women-owned businesses in the region generated $18.8 billion in annual revenues and created 225,000 jobs.  Gwen Martin, Center research director, presented the findings in Jacksonville.  Read More...
