Who We Are

The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) builds the capacity of community leaders and policymakers by providing technical support, applied research, policy evaluation, and training across the state. IIRA is a clearinghouse for information on rural issues, coordinates rural research, and works with state agencies on issues of importance to rural communities.

20th Annual Rural Community Economic Development Conference

We are pleased to announce the 20th Annual Rural Community Economic Development Conference will take place March 4 and 5, 2009, at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Peoria. Registration will be available January 30, 2009.

IIRA Helps Washburn Grocery Store Get USDA Grant

Illinois' only community-owned grocery store will expand its base with the help of IIRA and a federal grant aimed at fostering rural development through aid to cooperatives.

IIRA Professor Helps Rural Development Center in Mexico

John Gruidl recently spent a month working in Mexico to help the Universidad Technologica de la Selva establish a Center for Rural Development, similar to the IIRA, on its campus in Chiapas.
