Iowa Children's Water Festival

The Annual Iowa Children's Water Festival is a free, one-day event, heightening the awareness of the importance of our most valuable resource - WATER. Approximately 2000 fifth graders from across Iowa participate each year. Various aspects of water-related topics are taught through presentations, experiments, exhibits, games and entertainment.
The Iowa Water Science Center proudly supports the ICWF by serving on the Steering Committee and coordinating the Program and Educational Content Committees and with a representative on the Advisory Board. A number of district employees also participate the day of the festival leading the Water Jeopardy classroom presentation and in the Exhibit Hall with a demonstration of the Desdemona's Splash Water Quality and the Envrionment CD-ROM game.

Iowa High School Water Summit

The USGS is proud to be a contributing sponsor again for this event. The one day event is targeted to high school students who will be junior and seniors in the fall of 20007. The Summit will be held on November 8th at the State Capitol in Des Moines. It is designed to help develop future leaders by encouraging students to learn about all aspects of our water resources. Students will be required to write a paper addressing one of three scenarios, attend the Summit in November where they will give a brief presentation about their research and attend presentations by Iowa water professionals.
The original deadline for applications was in June but that date has been extended to 5:00pm, Friday, September 7, 2007. Encourage all qualified high school students to participate. To learn more about this event, visit the Summit web page.
