November 26, 2008 – Effective December 12, 2008, the Federal Acquisition Regulation will require Defense contractors to make timely notification when credible evidence exists of certain violations of criminal law and violations of the civil False Claims Act in connections with the award or performance of contracts.

Defense contractors should make these disclosures in writing to the Inspector General, DoD. An online contractor disclosure submission system is planned in the near future. For additional information click here or click on the link in the column at left.

October 24, 2008 – A team from Investigative Policy and Oversight (IPO) was in Iraq recently to conduct interviews as part of a DoD IG review of electrocution deaths of service members in Iraq.

The team, led by Mr. James Pavlik, Assistant Inspector General for IPO, met with General Ray Odierno, Commanding General Multi-National Force – Iraq, as well as with other senior military leaders, commanders at the various levels, facility maintenance officials, engineers and inspectors general. 

Interviews conducted by the team focused on determining the extent to which service members and DoD civilian personnel were aware of electrical safety issues and had initiated actions to mitigate the safety risk to personnel.

Web Site Launched to Help Fight Fraud

October 20, 2008 – The Audit Policy and Oversight Directorate of the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General has launched a new web site titled “Fraud Indicators in Procurement and Other Defense Activities.” 

The web site is intended to assist the inspectors general and law enforcement communities in the detection of fraud by providing examples and scenarios of common fraud indicators in contracting and other areas susceptible to fraud.  In the scenarios, it also provides tips for using data mining techniques and data analysis.

Over 35 DoD agencies and components, as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants contributed to the development of the web site.
