Doing business with the Lab

Business owners can learn more about the Laboratory's procurement strategies and initiatives at the New Mexico Business Symposium Thursday at the Cities of Gold Conference Center in Pojoaque.

The symposium is an opportunity for business owners to meet new procurement management and staff along with the technical end users from the Laboratory to learn more about the goods and services needs of the Laboratory.

"Our focus of this forum is ‘A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action,’ said Kevin Chalmers, Acquisition Services Management (ASM) Division leader. “Along those lines we are creating a mini-market place on how to do business with the Lab.”

"Although the forum is open to anyone interested in doing business with the Lab, big business or small, the Lab is committed to working with small business and I encourage small business owners to attend," said Dennis Roybal, Small Business Program (ASM-SPB) manager. "We are taking on more initiatives to contract with small businesses and this is a great opportunity to learn more about some of our strategies."

Buyers and requestors from the Laboratory will be at the forum to meet with vendors and suppliers.” said Nick Perry of Purchasing (ASM-PUR). "This is a good opportunity to meet our buyers, network and find out what opportunities are coming up in the next six months,” said Perry.

Attendees can visit with Lab procurement staff and get information on upcoming procurement opportunities, dates for bid awards, and bid packages along with information on bid preparation and pre-qualification.

“We also will have an electronic reverse auction running as part of a demonstration of where we are going with select procurements at the Lab,” said Perry.

Security at the Lab also will be an important part of the forum,” said Chalmers. “At one booth we will be playing a video of our ‘Subcontractor Security Summit’ for participants, emphasizing our commitment to protecting and safeguarding national security at the Laboratory.

“At our last forum former Laboratory Deputy Director John Mitchell made a promise to meet with vendors on a regular basis,” Chalmers continued. “This forum is an opportunity to build on our first meeting and take it to the next level and I am committed to having these supplier forums twice a year.”

The symposium is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is sponsored by the Laboratory, the New Mexico 8(a) and Minority Business Association and the Northern New Mexico Supplier Alliance.
