Student transcripts, salary review process under way

February 6, 2007

The annual student transcript and salary review process is now under way for Laboratory students. Official transcripts must be submitted by February 17 to the Education and Postdoc Office (STB-EPDO).

The transcript review process enables the Education and Postdoc Office to monitor a students' program eligibility and ensure academic progression.

Official student transcripts must show fall semester 2006 grades, spring semester 2007 enrollment status, the student's name and the institution he or she is attending, grade point average (latest semester and cumulative), and declared major.

Undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum of nine credit hours (or equivalent) each semester to remain eligible to participate in the internship program.

Graduate students are required to maintain a minimum of six credit hours (or equivalent) each semester to remain eligible to participate in the internship program. Graduate students who have completed their coursework are eligible to work full-time during the academic year providing they submit proof of enrollment showing thesis/dissertation course work.

Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted and late transcripts may impact students' ability to participate in the student internship program, according to Brenda Montoya of STB-EPDO.

The Laboratory's new grade point average-requirements will be monitored via the transcript review process. Student's whose GPAs are below the new minimum requirements will be contacted to discuss a path forward. The student's mentor and group leader also will be notified.

High school cooperative, post-baccalaureate, and post master's (one-year appointment prior to entering a doctoral degree program) students are not required to submit a transcript.

Students participating in the Electro-Mechanical Technician Training Program or the Machinist Apprentice Program are exempt from this transcript requirement.

Official transcripts should be sent to Montoya at Mail Stop M709 through interoffice mail or P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, New Mexico, 87545 if outside the Laboratory.

For questions or more information, contact Montoya at 7-4866 or bmontoya@lanl.gov by electronic mail or Carole Rutten at 5-5194 or crutten@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
