A memorial service for David Robert Smith is at 11 this morning in the Karen McLaughlin Hall of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos. Smith died June 11. He was 81.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He began working for the Laboratory in 1949 as a nuclear criticality safety officer and retired in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Luween Smith of Nambé.
