Ambassadors visit Lab for program updates

January 17, 2006

Ambassador Roald Naess, second from left, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Norway and Ambassador Richard Ekwall, right, director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Sweden, look over an agenda before the start of two days of program reviews and briefings last week at Los Alamos. Far left is Jeffrey Bedell of International Research, Analysis and Development (N-3). Also shown is Senior Fellow Terry Hawkins. Norway and Sweden are members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, which is an affiliation of 44 countries that cooperate to prevent the export of technologies and commodities that could be used to develop nuclear weapons. Los Alamos maintains the NSG Information Sharing System, a computer-based information exchange system that allows NSG member countries to share information on denied exports and prevent countries from "license shopping" to obtain dual-use commodities that could lead to nuclear proliferation.
