Alternative work schedules begin Monday

September 9, 2005

Alternative work schedules for Laboratory employees begin Monday with a nine-hour workday for employees participating in the 9/80 schedule.

Employees on the 9/80 schedule who are slated to work the Schedule-A option will take their first Friday off on Sept. 16. The first Friday off for employees on the Schedule-B option is Sept. 23. The Laboratory 2005 wall calendar correctly lists Fridays as A or B after the Sept. 12 implementation date.

An all manager’s memo from Director Robert Kuckuck emphasized the need to balance employee work-life issues with delivery of programmatic commitments, customer service and internal support. The memo states that alternative work schedules must incorporate conditions of supervision and must be developed and approved by management. The next chance for employees to modify schedules will be at the beginning of the first pay period in May 2006.

A set of Frequently Asked Questions about alternative work schedules is available. See the Aug. 18 edition of the Newsbulletin for more information.
