Institute trains potential future Lab workers

August 19, 2005

Daniel Walker, left of Vanderbilt University and the Weapons Engineering and Manufacturing (ADWEM) Directorate, listens to Bryan Blackmur of the University of Texas, Austin, discuss some research findings during a technical presentation close-out session of the ADWEM manufacturing science institute summer program last week in the Los Alamos Research Park. Blackmur and Christine Tower, center, also of UT-Austin, both work in ADWEM. The three students' summer project focused on detecting machining damage in titanium based on real-time signatures. Eight undergraduate students participated in the summer institute, which included course and project work in manufacturing technology. Vivek Dave of ADWEM coordinated the summer institute, designed to create a pipeline for attracting potential technical staff members to Los Alamos.
