May 26, 2005

The Valle Fire in the Valles Caldera west of the Laboratory and Los Alamos has burned 140 acres and there is some spotting, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The fire poses no danger to the Laboratory or the town.

One employee from Emergency Management and Response (EMR) is assigned to serve as a liaison to the incident command team. According to the forest service, two type 2 hand crews, two type 1 hot shot crews and two type 3 engines and other equipment are working the fire. About 100 firefighters are assigned to the fire.

Emergency Management and Response continues to monitor the fire and reminds Lab workers to use caution this Memorial Day weekend when hiking or camping in the forests.
